BALCOVA-IZMIR
History summary
History of the town is combined with the history of İzmir. It is about 3000 years old history. First residents of the town used to accomodate near the sea. They were afraid of pirates and drawed back to the place called Balcova. The name was Ayasefid, but they called it as Balçık Havi, "balçık" means mud. There are many historical ruins around, romenian Agemennon springs are left from Greeks.
Balcova springs
The Balçova Thermal spring has been accidentlly discovered by the Greek Commander Agamemnon in the fifteenth century BC.According to the legend, the daughter of Agamemnon got sick one day and had a sore. The doctors of those days could not find a proper cure for her. In order to prevent the spread of the disease Agamemnon took her to open area where Balçova is located today and left her there, tied to a tree. The daughter finally releasing herself from the ropes, drank water from the fountain and covered her body with mud. 21 day later she recovered from the sickness totally and she became healthier and more beautiful than ever. The thermal water cures especially the rheumatic diseases, neck and low back pain, the disturbances of orthopedic & neurologic all disorders, arthrose and choronic infection diseases and also is used as beauty and esthetic objectives.
The thermal water contains Potassium, Calcium, Sulfur, Magnesium, Iron, Sulfate, Bi-carbonate and Sodium.
